Thanks to Netflix and their recommendations, I'm free to be a big nerd and indulge in one of my favorite past times; watching old movies!  I've been watching them on the sly for a few weeks, but I love them so much that I feel like I have to share them with people so we remember how good the classics were are!

Last week I watched It Happened One Night with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.

Colbert's character, Ellie is the daughter of a wealthy banker who's been told what to do her whole life and then one day marries a rich man her father disapproves of.  So after he tries to force her to get an annulment, she runs away to be with her lover.  Along the way she meets Peter (Clark Gable), a journalist who has just been fired and is down on his luck.  Peter discovers he can use Ellie to get his career back by blowing the lid off of the mystery of the missing daughter.  But, first he has to survive the trip to New York City with her and it won't be easy.  Ellie foolishly spends all of her money in the first two days of the trip and she has to rely on Peter to help her make her way to NYC.

Fantastic movie!  It's a romantic comedy, but it's really funny!  They're both so charming and I loved watching their chemistry grow and all of the shenanigans they get into.  Yes, it's in black and white, but trust me it's great.

Re: Clare's Nerdy Movie Review

right on Claire. This is a classic film! and very scandalous! I love b&w films - made "back in the day" as their attention to light and shadows makes for wonderful drama. It's easy to make things look good in color - it takes great talent and creativity to do it in black and white.

Do you have TCM channel? You would love it. Way better than 99% of current movies!
