DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 6\, 2013\, Grinnell College will host the 6th Annual  Youth Leadership Summit for lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, and  straight allied youth. Middle school\, high school\, college and  university students from all corners of Iowa will be attending\, along  with students from South Dakota\, Missouri and Nebraska.

The theme of the 2012 summit is “The Art of Advocacy\,” with workshops  about political advocacy; youth rights; the use of art in social  movements; how to advocate for oneself\, and the intersection of multiple  identities\, including as race\, gender\, dis/ability.

In addition to these workshops\, students will have opportunities for  networking\, discussing strategies for effective student leadership\,  engaging in conversations about Gay Straight Alliance club programming\,  and more. Grinnell College students\, One Iowa and Iowa Pride Network  staff are among those facilitating workshops and discussions.

Iowa Pride Network empowers students to stop bullying\, homophobia\,  transphobia and hate in high schools and colleges by supporting  gay-straight alliance (GSA) clubs and providing leadership opportunities  and organizing projects centered on social justice.
