DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, January 26\, nearly 400 orchestra students from area middle and high schools will take to the stage of the newly-reopened Paramount Theatre for the annual Metro Orchestra Festival. Middle school students from the Cedar Rapids\, Linn-Mar\, and Mount Vernon school districts will present a concert at 6:15 p.m. A concert of high school musicians will follow at 8:15 p.m. The orchestras will work with local area directors\, as well as two guest conductors – Dr. Jacob Harrison\, Director of Orchestral Activity at Iowa State University and Mr. Jerry Henry\, former area orchestra director and past president of the Iowa String Teacher Association. The student ensembles will perform a wide array of musical styles\, from classical standards to classic rock.

The festival was held at the Paramount for nearly 25 years until the Flood of 2008 forced its temporary relocation to Linn-Mar High School. With the theatre now reopened\, event organizers are thrilled to return to the original venue.

“It is such a privilege for these young musicians to be able to experience rehearsing and performing in such an exquisite venue\,” noted Kelly Vieth\, Excelsior Middle School Director. “We are all grateful to have this historic theater as part of the Cedar Rapids community again!”

Tickets may be pre-ordered online at www.paramounttheatrecr.com or by calling 800-369-8863. Tickets are $6 for students\, $8 for adults\, and $25 for families. \nhttp://www.kzia.com/ZCAUSE/LOCALEVENTS/tabid/98/vw/3/itemid/671/d/20130127/Default.aspx
