The 25th Annual Swamp Fox Festival
The 25th annual Swamp Fox Festival will celebrate Marion’s heritage and also help mark Marion’s 175th anniversary. The festivities will take place on and around Saturday, Sept. 6.
Key events include the 5K run/walk and parade both in Uptown Marion, as well as the afternoon/evening entertainment and fireworks finale at Lowe Park.
The Swamp Fox Festival 5K Run/Walk will take place on September 6 at 8:00 a.m. The highly-acclaimed Swamp Fox Festival Parade will follow at 10:15 a.m. The festival theme celebrates Marion’s 175-year heritage. With this being such a milestone year, festival organizers strongly encourage floats that emphasize an era in Marion’s 175-year history. It could be the year a club/organization or business was founded, or simply a decade that evokes fond memories. Cash prizes will be awarded in a number of categories.
Step back in time and get a feel for what life was like around the time Marion was founded when you visit the Buckskinners encampment at Lowe Park. Buckskinners dress in costumes reminiscent those worn in the1830s and 1840s and play the part to give a real feel to the encampment.
To further enhance the entertainment offerings, area businesses or non-profit groups are hosting affiliated events in conjunction with the Swamp Fox Festival. After the parade, stop by the new exhibit at the Marion Heritage Center or take advantage of the deals as part of the Uptown Marion sidewalk sales.
Saturday’s evening entertainment will be held at Lowe Park on North 10th Street. Activities include fun and games for kids, including some of the games that were popular 175 years ago. Music will be provided by Funk Stop and Silver Wings, dinner will be grilled by the Linn County Cattlemen. The grand fireworks finale will take place at 9:00 p.m.
Sunday enjoy the Swamp Fox Car Cruise-In hosted by the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club at Thomas Park.
