Jefferson High School, Children’s Theatre of Cedar Rapids Playtime Poppy to Present
Alice in Wonderland
October 11-13 , 2012
Alice in Wonderland is the timeless tale of rhyme with no reason, a land with no season,
and plenty of silly for silly’s sake. Join Alice as she journeys through the looking glass, down
the rabbit hole and into a world of grinning Cheshire cats, tea parties with the Mad Hatter
and March Hare, and a trip to the royal court to meet the Queen of Hearts. Come ready to
jump out of your seat and maybe even lend a helping hand as Jefferson presents: Alice in
Wonderland.

Noelridge Farmers' Market
The Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department will open the Noelridge Farmers’ Market on May 1. The Noelridge Farmers’ Market is located on the corner of Collins Road and Council Street NE. It is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. through Friday, October 18. (The Noelridge Market will be closed on May 27 and September 2.)
Plants, cut flowers, fresh fruits and vegetables, doggie treats, kettle corn, meat, honey, baked goods and crafts are available at the market. The Noelridge Market is certified by the Iowa State Agriculture Department to accept IFMNP checks from the WIC Program and the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program. HARD CHARGETM Obstacle Running Event
Set For July 20, 2013 in Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Jan. 16, 2013) — HARD CHARGETM is bringing its televised obstacle running series to Eastern Iowa on Jul. 20, 2013. The first-annual HARD CHARGE Eastern Iowa event will take place at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids. Registration is open to everyone at HardCharge.com/easterniowa. HARD CHARGE is partnering with local sponsors and charities for this annual community event.
Four and a half miles of unpredictable terrain and more than 20 challenging obstacles such as Abusement Park, Cargo Charge, No Holds Barred and Vertical Vengeance await HARD CHARGE Eastern Iowa participants. The obstacle mission is designed to be an intense, challenging and fun event for all fitness levels and consists of two primary heats: CHARGE for Fun and CHARGE for Glory. CHARGE for Fun participants are out to achieve the ultimate sense of accomplishment. They may take on the course at their own pace and choose to eliminate tougher obstacles. CHARGE for Glory heats are timed and marshaled, with top individuals and teams qualifying for the final, Televised CHARGE held later in the day.
Beginning in June 2013, HARD CHARGE televised series will be syndicated on networks around the country. The show focuses on the world’s fastest-growing adventure sport and the everyday competitors who qualify for the televised heat. Each episode highlights their journeys and personal stories as they work towards competing in a race testing their courage, strength and stamina.
HARD CHARGE Eastern Iowa kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with the CHARGE for Glory heats, followed by CHARGE for Fun heats at 11:00 a.m. The Televised CHARGE begins at 3:00 p.m. HARD CHARGE Eastern Iowa will also feature a post-race party with music, food and beverages, located at CHARGER Village inside the park. Spectators are encouraged to watch the CHARGE and attend the post-race party; both events are open to non-participants, free of charge.
Registration is now open and runs through Jul. 17, 2013. Early registration pricing, valid through March 20, is $56 for the CHARGE for Fun event and $76 for the CHARGE for Glory event. HARD CHARGETM is the premier televised obstacle running series. Designed to challenge every fitness level, HARD CHARGE courses are four to six miles and feature various military-inspired obstacles. Furthermore, HARD CHARGE obstacle missions are divided into CHARGE for Fun and CHARGE for Glory heats. Participants may navigate the CHARGE for Fun course at their own pace, or choose to compete in the CHARGE for Glory heats where top performers will earn the chance to be featured on HARD CHARGE televised series. Every show highlights personal stories of these everyday athletes as they compete in the fastest-growing adventure sport in the world. HARD CHARGE events will be held throughout the country in 2013.

CRPD Youth Academy
The Cedar Rapids Police Department is pleased to announce they are taking applications for the Cedar Rapids Police Youth Academy. The Youth Academy will be held three times for different age groups. June 10 – 11, 2013, will be geared for children entering Kindergarten through 2nd Grades. June 25 - 26, 2013, will be for children entering 3rd through 5th Grades. July 8 – 9, 2013 will be for children entering 6th through 12th Grades. The cost of the Youth Academy is $25. Many fun activities are packed into the academy which runs from 9 am - noon. Take a tour of the CRPD! Topics include: Uniforms, Narcotics Division, K-9 Unit, Special Response Team, Crime Scene Unit, Physical Training and more.
Parental permission is required.
Class size is limited. Early registration is recommended.
*Youth that have not previously attended a Youth Academy will be given
first preference.
