Local Events



A support group for those who have lost someone to suicide will meet Thursday, December 6, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at The Crisis Center of Johnson County, located at 1121 Gilbert Court in Iowa City. Arrive at 6:30 pm to join the group for pizza and a candlelight remembrance ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo to share. The Suicide Survivors Support Group offers participants a safe place to talk about memories, ongoing grief and the stigma surrounding death by suicide. New members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

       The Crisis Center has been serving residents of Johnson County since 1970. In addition to the Suicide Survivors Support Group, the organization offers crisis intervention counseling, suicide prevention and intervention, supplemental food services, emergency financial assistance, disaster recovery and other community programs.  The Crisis Center wants to be your first call in Johnson County.
