Celebration of the Young Child is a national event created to celebrate and focus attention on the needs of young children and their families. It recognizes our community organizations and the work these dedicated professionals do every day to support local families and promote healthy children. Celebration of the Young Child is sponsored by the National Association of the Education of the Young Child as part of their Week of the Young Child.
Friday, April 12 – A special presentation for Childcare Providers and Parents! “The Ecology of Healthy Development: Providing a Supportive and Playful Foundation for Children” presented by Dr. Karla McGregor, University of Iowa DeLTA Center Director and Dr. Tess Barker, Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics Executive Director.
Bring your kids and come early to enjoy pizza at 6:00 pm then leave the kids to play with museum PLAYologists while you attend the presentation. All kids must be age 3 and older. Saturday, April 13 - Early Years are Learning Years! presented at The Iowa Children’s Museum. Enjoy free admission all day long sponsored by The Children’s Center for Therapy.
Join us to experience active learning in The Iowa Children’s Museum’s dynamic exhibits to promote child development. Attend theatre performances throughout the day including IPTV’s Dan Wardell, Sweet Feet Yoga, West Music, and museum PLAYologists. Create fun make & take crafts and play with dozens of community groups, including childcare providers, 4Cs, Iowa City Public Library, UI Delta Center, and more! Free dental, vision, and hearing screenings will be available from First Sight, Wendell Johnson Speech & Hearing Clinic, and UI Pediatric Dentistry Students.
Come early! The first 50 kids on Saturday receive free passes to ride the Coral Ridge Mall carousel and the first 300 children ages 0-5 receive a free book sponsored by The Johnson County Empowerment/ECIA.
