The Roosevelt Middle School community is partnering with the Matthew 25 Ministry Hub to build and plant a school campus vegetable garden. Students, staff, parents, and neighbors are invited to help with the project on Saturday, April 6 from 8 a.m. to noon.
To be located on the southwest corner of the school campus, the garden project will serve as an outdoor classroom that incorporates all aspects of hands-on garden learning, provides an opportunity physical activity, and serves as a hub for community education, according to Cindy Frese, teacher.
“This garden will be used by our students, teachers, parents, and community,” Frese explained. “This will be an ongoing project. We are working together to develop the plan of what to do with it. Students will develop a greater awareness of their environment and the key issues that affect the production of local foods. The garden will be a learning experience for all involved.”
Snacks and water will be provided at the garden event; participants are encouraged to bring work gloves, shovels, and garden rakes.
