Noelridge Aquatic Center Celebrates 10th Birthday with a FREE Swim. Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation will celebrate ten years of swimming at Noelridge Aquatic Center on June 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A short rededication ceremony, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and concluding with a group ceremonial plunge, will be followed by a free evening of swimming.
On July 10, 2001, the community voted to rebuild the city’s outdated pools by passing an additional one percent Local Option Sales Tax over a period of one year. Support for rebuilding Cedar Rapids outdoor pools was largely due to a grassroots citizen initiative. Noelridge Aquatic Center was the second pool to be rebuilt. It opened to the public on June 7, 2003. Construction of all of the city’s pools was completed June 4, 2005, on time and under budget.
