Sixth Annual Sporting Clays Fun Day Shoot To Raise Funds for the Fight Against Cancer

 Clay target shooting sports enthusiasts are invited to the Fayette County Conservation Club sporting clays range Sunday, Aug. 11 to take part in the sixth annual  Shootout Against Cancer.

 Recreational shooters from across the upper Midwest gather at the FCCC grounds on the west edge of Oelwein, Iowa each year to participate in the sporting clays fun day. The event has raised more than $31,000 for cancer research over the past five years.

 The Shootout Against Cancer sporting clays course is designed for clay target shooters of all ability levels from beginners to veterans. All registration is on the day of the shoot and starts at 8 a.m.

 All teams must be registered, entered and on the course by 1 p.m.

 Registration fee is $50 and includes the 100-target sporting clays course and lunch on the grounds. There will be other shooting games, raffles and prizes, including a raffle for a Winchester SuperX3 Sporting Clays Shotgun.

All proceeds from the Shootout go to fund cancer research supported by the University of Iowa Foundation.

 The Fayette club grounds are on the west edge of Oelwein off County Highway C50 (West Charles Street). Signs will be posted with directions to the grounds and parking areas.

 The annual Shootout against Cancer has raised $31,674 for cancer research. Each year the event draws 125-150 participants.

 The 100-target sporting clays course will offer a variety of targets and will be fun for veteran and novice shooters, said Hugh Curtis, Fayette County Conservation Club member and an organizer of the annual shootout.

 Fayette County Conservation Club and Shootout organizers extend a special invitation to anyone interested in learning about and taking part in the game of sporting clays.

 “The Shootout Against Cancer is a fun event for shooters of all ages and ability levels,” said Don Stohr, club member and a shootout organizer. “In addition to raising funds for the fight against cancer, this is also an opportunity to get more people involved in the shooting sports.”
