Training for Volunteer Teacher-Naturalists Thursday, Sept 5, 12:00 PM Experience our Pond and Wetland Field Trip for 1st, 2nd  and 3rd graders. Equinox Labyrinth Workshop

Labyrinths are a walking tool to calm, center, and connect with self. They also provide a connection to  healing energy. Fall Equinox Harvest
Sunday, Sept 22, 4:00-5:00 PM at Matthew 25

Backyard Chicken Basics

Star Party

Take a starlight tour of the night sky with astronomer Jenny Rupp and enjoy some of the stories behind the constellations. Create your own star chart as we wait for dark, and allow your imagination to run wild while looking for your own constellations as the stars pop out!  Viewing equipment will be available to share, but feel free to bring your own. Ribbit’s Preschool Adventure: Bat Business Saturday, Oct 19, 12:00 Noon Discover the good things bats do for our environment. Where do they live, what do they eat, and how do these flying mammals hunt? Listen to a story, create a bat mask and play a bat game to track down “dinner.”  Recommended for children aged 3-6 accompanied by an adult. Scary Stories Around the Campfire

Join Darrin Crow around the campfire for an evening of scary (but not TOO scary) stories that bump, jump, and thump! Gather Prairie Seed for Your Yard

Ribbit’s Preschool Adventure: Getting Ready for Winter Saturday, Nov 16, 12:00 Noon Ribbit and Toby are our guests today. Ribbit is a frog and Toby’s a real, live mammal. Learn what they do in winter and discover how their other wild friends prepare for Iowa’s cold, snowy winters. Enjoy meeting a real rabbit, listen to a story about winter preparations, and go on an outdoor adventure looking for signs of changing weather. Geocache Treasure Hunt

Hunt for treasures along Nature Center trails – the treasures being interesting sites, geologic items, or habitats in our amazing space at Indian Creek Nature Center. Join naturalist David Brenzel for a lesson on how to use a GPS unit and a list of waypoints to find and log into your “journal” for the experience. When the journal is completed, check in to claim your prize. Discover hidden corners of the nature center, learn how to operate and program a GPS unit, have a great trail adventure and go home with a prize if you find all the waypoints! Chili Luncheon and Silent Auction

Are you looking for a fun way to pick up outdoor gear at a great price? Shop the most unique auction around to bid on a variety of gently-used outdoor gear. And come hungry! Just $6 lets you sample a variety of chili made by members of the Cedar Wapsie Chapter of the Sierra Club. Proceeds from the auction and lunch benefit both the local Sierra Club and Indian Creek Nature Center. For more information, call the Nature Center or check our website.

Do you have unused gear stashed in your garage, closet or attic?  The Sierra Club and Nature Center annually sponsor this event to recycle items gathering dust and get them to people who want gear.  More items are always needed. Anyone interested in donating items can bring them to the Nature Center during business hours after November 1st.
