We start with some dips. Eric recommended we try Malt Vinegar like they do with fish and chips in the U.K.
Destiny was NOT a fan. But Clare agreed with Eric. Malt Vinegar adds some sour, some salt. Very good!
We all thought we’d LOVE honey butter dipping sauce for our fries–inspired by South Korea. Maybe our mixture of butter and honey was off? It was very ‘meh.’
Clare recommended we try some fries she first tasted at a local Indian restaurant. Masala Fries are french fries coated in a spicy tomato masala sauce. Our sauce was very mild. Just ok.
Our friends to the north, Canada, gave us Poutine: French fries and cheese curds covered in gravy. It was AMAZING!
Eric and Clare loved starting their morning in beautiful Czech Village, where the Dock Dogs competition is jumping off as part of the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival.
A great morning to pick up your Z Win-Dough sticker!
If you want to visit the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, you gotta go through the Morning Scramble.
Clare and Eric were joined by Abby Huff from the Czech Village/New Bo Main Street and Karol Shepherd with the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival.
Eric loved his special Hawkeye M&M’s, but they’re awfully round…
Destiny was determined to make a stack of at least 3 M&M’s. She was ultimately unsuccessful.
Clare had high hopes for breaking the Guinness World Record and stacking 6, but after actually tryin it for herself, she was pretty happy with just stacking 2.
The Scramblers started off with fruit. You can’t mess up fruit, right? Wrong.
Cinnamon on watermelon gives a little kick to watermelon. Destiny liked it, but Clare and Eric say plain ‘ol watermelon is good on its own!
Clare’s husband suggested they try cantaloupe with salt and pepper sprinkled on it. Not bad. It gives a more savory flavor to the melon.
Lizzo told TikTok that mustard on watermelon is good. Lizzo is a liar. Well, Destiny liked it, but Eric and Clare do not recommend you try this. Yuck.
Moving on to…vegetables. It makes sense that we’d want to cover up the flavor of our veggies.
Eric tried radishes with butter and salt at a fancy restaurant and it was delicious! He really wanted Clare and Destiny to give it a try, but we must have assembled it wrong? Not delicious.
Next up: Peanut butter and green pepper…was actually FANTASTIC! The creaminess of the peanut butter gets tamed by the juicy pepper. And the flavors meld well.
Eric had quality niece, nephew, nephew and nephew time this Father’s Day weekend!
Clare is working hard to tick things off the summer bucket list. Made it to to pool! ✔
Destiny spent some time hiking at the Palisades. After falling flat on her back and twisting an ankle she took some well needed time to rest by the water.
